The skills acquired with this Degree program comprise scientific and technical aspects as well as aspects concerning the relationship with the customer/patient. Such aspects characterize the pharmacist profession within a modern frame and go beyond the simplistic commercial stereotype of the profession.

In addition, the program prepares not only on drugs and medicinal products and their evolution, but also on health and well-being products: Food and Herbal Supplements, Cosmetics, Dietetics.

 The responsibilities arising from the acquired knowledge and skills, make the profession a link between institutions, healthcare professionals and citizens, as stressed by the recent healthcare needs urged by the pandemic emergency and evidenced by the recent introduction of the following new activities in pharmacies:

  • clinical pharmacy
  • pharmaceutical care
  • chronic patient management
  • services for primary and secondary prevention such as clinical analyses and telemedicine.

The program is characterized by multidisciplinary and transversal teaching in different areas, all of the utmost importance for training the modern Pharmacist.

 

The first segment of the program offers basic subjects of chemistry, biology and anatomy, as well as mathematics, physics and computer science; then, the specific subjects for the profession follow, leading to knowledge of medicinal, health and well-being products, diagnostic and medical devices with respect to all scientific and ethical aspects of the preparation, production, quality control and advice.

 The Program develops the instruction via both theoretical and practical courses aimed to provide:

  • knowledge of the design, development, formulation, compounding and industrial manufacturing of medicinal, health and well-being products, diagnostic and medical devices
  • knowledge of each product chain with respect to the application of the good manufacturing practices (medicinal, health and well-being products, diagnostic and medical devices)
  • knowledge of the aspects related to quality, safety and effectiveness assessment, in particular pharmacoepidemiology and monitoring of the proper use of medicinal products, diagnostic and medical devices, as well as health and well-being
  • knowledge of health-related information applied to the distribution of medicines, health and well-being products, diagnostic and medical devices
  • knowledge of the formulation, preparation and control of conventional and innovative dosage forms, of medicinal products containing active ingredients of natural, synthetic and biotechnological origin, and also of cosmetic and health products
  •  knowledge of decoding the most common clinical analyses and of pharmacy organization
  • knowledge of the pharmacy management techniques and interactions with the customer/patient and between the latter and the National Health System
  • The fifth year of program comprises a compulsory professional internship in a pharmacy (community or hospital)

Upon achievement of degree and professional qualification, the following fields of employment are available to the pharmacist:

  • professional management of community pharmacy, drug-stores or local pharmaceutical and healthcare services
  • scientific information about drug products and health products
  • career in the administration of National Health Care System
  • research and development, manufacturing and control of medicines in industry
  • research, manufacturing and control of health and well-being products
  • research, manufacturing and control in the food and veterinary product industries
