Internal internship

Procedure for earning the internal internship

The internal internship is one of the four options through which the student may earn the 2 CFU credits for the curricular internship. It consists of a period of training activity carried out at the Department of Physics and Earth Sciences, or at any Department, research institution (for example INFN, INAF, CNR), Centre or Institute of the University of Ferrara.

The activity is carried out under the supervision of a representative of the host institution. If the internship takes place at the Department of Physics and Earth Sciences, the representative may also be a faculty member of the Unified Council of Physics Degree Programmes, or may coincide with the academic tutor.

The workload amounts to 50 hours, corresponding to 2 CFU credits (1 CFU credit for the internship equals 25 hours). It is a transversal training activity, aimed at acquiring computer and telematic abilities, relational skills and workforce orientation, which the student experiences within their thesis work, in close contact with the research groups.

The steps required to choose the activity, activate the credits and complete them correctly are described below.

1 - Choice of the activity. The student identifies the internship activity as part of their thesis work, in agreement with an academic tutor from the University of Ferrara. The tutor must be a faculty member of the degree programme or a member of the Unified Council of Physics Degree Programmes, with expertise relevant to the topics the student intends to explore. In collaboration with the student, the tutor approves the internship site and defines its educational objectives.

2 - Activation of the credits. Before starting the activity, the student completes the activation form for the internal internship (Internal_Internship_Credits_F_Form_EN.docx) and sends it by email to both of the following addresses:

3 - Completion of the activity. At the end of the internal internship, two reports must be completed:

The grade is recorded once all 3 type F credits have been earned. Only after completing both the 1 CFU credit for third mission activities and the 2 CFU credits for the curricular internship does the student register for the type F credits examination session, which is followed by the formal recording of the grade by Prof. Fabio Mantovani.
